The official opening for the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) took place on Friday, 23rd October 2020 at Tuanaimato. The new building will be the focal point during emergency assistance and dissemination of all outgoing information in times of disasters.
Reverend Va'atofu Tupule Tala of the Methodist Church led the ceremony with a prayer followed by the official address given by the Prime Minister and Minister of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi. Climate change and disaster risk management is important in this changing world hence the need for a centre in times of emergency operations. The Building was constructed by Zheng Construction under a partnership with the World Bank. The project cost $6.4 million for the two storey building and the construction time took 14 months. The first floor consists of the emergency operation center and the second floor the disaster management office. It has been designed with adequate space and equipment needed during times of disasters.
